I am soon to be mum to baby number 2. I found sleep pretty rough with baby number 1 for about the first 7 or 8 months. I think particularly around the 5 month mark there was a bit of sleep regression (in baby) that I was not mentally prepared for. Trying to think about how it make it better for myself this time around. A lot of sleep advice comes from ways of trying to control the baby’s sleep, sleep training etc. rather than focusing on what the parent can do to maximise their sleep if they have a bit of help (which I do!).

In the original version of this post, I had lots of proper credit given with links. But then lawyers from Franklin Covey threatened to sue me if I didn’t remove all mentions of the their trademarks, or links to their materials. So I had to remove them all, and so here we are, with no sources… ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

This Quadrant theory is Stephen Covey’s work. You could direct your readers to his book : “The 7 habits of highly effective people”.

I tend to agree, but because it would require me to redo all my graphics, I think I will leave it as is for now. But perhaps in the future, I will update it… 🙂

Hi,

Unfortunately, I’ve discontinued this project.

I have personally moved to a paper based calendar and task managing system. (See http://bulletjournal.com ) and have found that disconnecting from my phone allows me to ignore distractions and focus much better. And so, I have also started doing my weekly planning in a paper based format to avoid the distractions that come with the phone. Since I no longer use the app, I am no longer the best person to be maintaining and updating it.

I have also removed the app from the app store for more legal reasons (the app was published under my Company’s account, and so was owned by the company instead of myself. If I republish the app, it will be under a personal account). So if you like the app, DO NOT DELETE IT FROM YOUR PHONE as you will not be able to re-download it.

Finally, the source code for this app is free and available here: https://github.com/Czarto/LifeBalancer

If you are a developer, or know a developer, or can hire a developer, they should be able to re-publish this onto the App Store themselves, and make any improvements you may want.

Unfortunately, for myself, this app has stopped being a priority.

Hope this helps, and I apologize for abandoning the app! 🙁

Best,

Alex

Hi Michael,

Thank you for your message, and I understand the importance of enforcing your trademark rights.

A few corrections to your message:
1. The app is NOT being sold on the App Store. It is a free download. It does not generate revenue.
2. The name of the App is “7 Habits Life Balancer” and NOT “THE 7 Habits Life Balancer”.

Regardless of the above, I agree to:
1. Remove the words “7 Habits” from the title of the app (the original name was intended to be just LifeBalancer, but that name is apparently already taken on the App Store, so 7 Habits was added to the beginning to make the name unique)
2. Remove the words “7 HABITS” from the title of the app from any web pages that I control, and make best efforts to do the same on web pages that I do not control.
3. I will add a disclaimer that this app is in no way associated with nor endorsed by Franklin Covey, and that FC is the owner of the TMs. If you have specific text in mind please send it my way.

However, I intend to continue to use “THE 7 HABITS” trademark when making reference to Stephen Covey’s book: ie “This app is based on the weekly planning method used in the book ‘The Seven Habits of Highly Effective People'” as I believe this is allowable TM use.

Some background:
I built this app mainly as a tool for myself to plan my week (I’ve previously tried and purchased the Franklin Covey Outlook addons but they are a hybrid method not ideally suited for me). The intention long term is to make this app open source so the community can update it. The spirit of this app is much in the same spirit as the book – to help people better themselves. I respect the Franklin Covey brand and it is not my intention affect the company in a negative way.

I am hoping to be able to make the TM related changes to the app in the next few weeks. I am aiming to have the next version released before July 1.

Best,

Alex Czartoryski

Now that I’m retired, I continue to live within the four quadrants and unbelievable how little stress I have which enables me to spend some time in quadrant 4 when I want to

Comment on Reactive vs Proactive Language by J.Paul https://czarto.com/2013/08/03/reactive-vs-proactive-language/#comment-1213 Wed, 23 Oct 2013 03:02:44 +0000 http://czarto.com/?p=1188#comment-1213 Alex,

In the practice, this is the only aspect I disagree with, among all.

Note that the proactive statements are too wordy comparing to the non-proactive ones.

This is not assertive language, it brings communication problems and is not effective, not efficient in the long run.

This happens to be something I enjoy reading about in my free time. You’re touching on adopting an internal locus of control. It’s a powerful concept, and I suspect it’s molded and reinforced to no small degree by the language we use.

There’s a fair body of research showing that “internals” tend to do better at work and have better health. We know it’s important, but, sadly, there’s been little research on how to change it later in life. I’m sure changing language would be helpful.

We could also avoid thinking about past failures past the point that there’s a lesson to learn. Even if someone else is mostly to blame, you can’t do anything about the past but learn a lesson for yourself next time.

When we feel trapped – like our lives are just happening to us beyond our control – it might also be worth evaluating the decisions we actually have. At work, we can realize quitting is actually always an option. Sometimes we forget that. We may decide it’s not worth quitting, but hey, we’ve already made a decision! That decision to continue work by itself reinforces the fact that we’re in control and choosing to put up with the situation of our own volition.

So helpful. I got to be in q2 and I realised this after spending my entire life in q1 and wondering what the hell is wrong with me. I read all the self help books in my life and none of them explained this to me in such simple terms.
